Updated May 2026. Mykonos has been the LGBTQ+ summer capital of Europe since the 1960s. Whitewashed Cycladic houses, blue domes, beach club DJs, the windmills at sunset, gay-friendly hotels embedded in every quarter of Chora — the island is built for queer travelers. I’m Roxas, one of the agents at Pride Travelers. I’ve booked dozens of clients on Mykonos trips over the years, from honeymoons to circuit-week groups to “I want one quieter island after this” pairings. Here’s the honest 2026 gay Mykonos guide — where to stay, where to drink, the best gay beach (and the one that’s overhyped), when to go, and how to do it without spending a fortune.
Quick take
A 5-night gay Mykonos trip works best in late June, early September, or “shoulder August” (avoid peak Aug 1–20 if you can — prices triple). Stay in Chora (Mykonos town) for nightlife, or in Ornos/Psarou if you want quieter beach-resort feel. Super Paradise Beach is the gay beach. The bar scene runs Little Venice (Caprice, Babylon) into Skandinavian Bar / Jackie O’ Town. Sunset at the windmills is non-negotiable. Greece legalized same-sex marriage in 2024 — Mykonos is fully legally protected for LGBTQ+ couples.

Is Mykonos still gay-friendly in 2026?
Yes — explicitly and unambiguously. Greece legalized same-sex marriage in February 2024, making it the first Orthodox-majority nation to do so. Athens has had Pride since 2005. Mykonos itself has been the unofficial LGBTQ+ summer capital of the Mediterranean for more than 50 years. The island’s tourism economy is built substantially on gay travelers — the entire infrastructure (hotels, bars, beach clubs, restaurants) caters to or actively courts the LGBTQ+ market.
The vibe is welcoming and openly affectionate. Same-sex couples hold hands in Chora streets, share cabanas at Super Paradise, get married on the cliffs above Little Venice. The only caveat: Mykonos has the highest LGBTQ+-traveler concentration of any Greek island, but the island is also more crowded and expensive than ever — that’s the trade-off for the world-class scene.
Where should I stay in gay Mykonos?
Four general neighborhoods for gay travelers, each with a different vibe and price band.
- Chora (Mykonos Town). The heart of nightlife and the closest to Little Venice. Walking everywhere. Loud. Hotels: Belvedere (luxury, hosts gay-popular events), Boheme Mykonos (boutique, in the maze), Andronikos Hotel (above-town, pool views). Pick Chora if nightlife is the priority.
- Ornos. Quiet small beach, family-friendly resort hub, 10 minutes by taxi to Chora. Hotels: Santa Marina, Kivotos. Pick Ornos if you want beach-resort calm with easy Chora access.
- Psarou Beach. The “see and be seen” boutique beach with Nammos beach club. Pricey. Hotels: Mykonos Blu, Petasos Beach. Pick Psarou if you want curated luxury and don’t mind the price.
- Elia Beach / Super Paradise area. Closest to the gay beach. Quieter, more remote. Hotels: Myconian Imperial, Royal Myconian. Pick Elia if Super Paradise beach is the daily destination.
For first-time gay Mykonos visitors we usually recommend Chora. You can walk to Little Venice for sunset and to bars after dinner, taxi or shuttle to the beach. Splitting your stay between Chora and a beach-area hotel adds logistical complexity that’s not worth it on a 4-5 night trip.
Where’s the best gay beach in Mykonos?
Super Paradise Beach is the established gay beach — specifically, the right (eastern) end of the bay, anchored by the JackieO’ Beach Club. The crowd is mostly gay men, the music is daytime circuit, and the energy peaks 2–6pm. Take a taxi or ATV from Chora (15–20 minutes) — the road is winding.
Elia Beach (just over the headland from Super Paradise) is the longer, calmer, broadly gay-friendly beach — less circuit, more couples, more mixed. Worth the walk over for a quieter afternoon.
Paradise Beach (different from Super Paradise — smaller, more party-tourist-oriented) and Psarou (luxury “see and be seen” with Nammos beach club) are both worth visiting but are not the gay beaches. Skip Paradise Beach unless you specifically want the day-club party scene.
Where do gay travelers go at night in Mykonos?
Mykonos nights start late and run until sunrise. Dinner at 9–10pm, drinks in Little Venice 11pm onward, clubs after midnight, beach club after-parties or hotel pools the next morning.
| Venue | Type | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Caprice | Seaside cocktail bar (Little Venice) | Sunset drinks, daily 7–11pm warm-up |
| Babylon | Seafront gay bar (Little Venice) | Pre-club energy, mixed gay/straight crowd |
| Jackie O’ Town | Gay bar / dance floor (Chora) | Drag shows, dance, midnight crowd |
| Skandinavian Bar | Mixed multi-floor club | Younger crowd, late-night dancing |
| JackieO’ Beach Club | Beach club (Super Paradise) | Daytime gay party, DJ sets, lunch |
| Cavo Paradiso | Mega-club (clifftop) | Big-name international DJs, peak summer |
| Nammos | Luxury beach club (Psarou) | “See and be seen” champagne lunch |
When is the best time for a gay Mykonos trip?
Three usable windows in 2026.
- Mid-May to late June. Shoulder season. Weather warm and sunny, sea reaching swimming temperature mid-June. Prices 30-50% off peak. Crowds light. The locals open the beach clubs in mid-May. This is the smart traveler’s window.
- July (especially the second half). Peak gay-traveler density. The XLSIOR Festival (Mykonos’s major gay circuit event) typically falls in late August, but late July sees the lead-up energy build. Hotel prices 1.5-2x shoulder season.
- Late August / early September. XLSIOR Festival anchor week (check the official site for 2026 dates) plus the shoulder of summer. Prices stay high through XLSIOR week, then drop sharply mid-September. The first 10 days of September are the best balance — warm, busy enough to feel alive, but past peak crowds.
Avoid August 1–15. European holiday peak. Hotel prices triple. Mykonos becomes nearly unusable — reservations everywhere, queue for restaurants, beach clubs sold out. Unless you specifically want the maximum-intensity week, skip.
How much does a gay Mykonos trip cost?
Mykonos is expensive even in shoulder season — this is a luxury island. Budget per person per day (double occupancy), all-in:
- Hotel: $300–$600 per night for a quality 4-star in shoulder season, $600–$1,500+ in peak July-August. Boutique luxury (Belvedere, Cavo Tagoo) runs $1,000–$3,000+ per night peak.
- Food & drink: Dinner $100–$200 per person at mid-range; $200–$500+ at top tables (Spilia, Hippie Fish, Scorpios). Drinks at beach clubs $20–$30 each. Lunches at Nammos start around $200 per person.
- Beach club access: Sun lounger + service $80–$300 per pair per day at top clubs (JackieO’, Nammos, Scorpios). Free at public beaches.
- Transport: Taxis $10–$30 per ride. ATV rentals $40–$80 per day (the local move).
- Flights from US: $900–$1,800 round-trip, usually routed through Athens.
All-in for a 5-night gay Mykonos trip, shoulder season, mid-range: $3,500–$5,500 per person. Peak August can double that. Many clients soften the budget by pairing Mykonos with a quieter, cheaper Greek island (Naxos, Paros, Tinos, Syros) on either side.
Should I pair Mykonos with another Greek island?
For most of our clients, yes. A pure Mykonos week is doable for 4–5 nights but tends to feel intense on the wallet and the social calendar. The best pairings:
- Mykonos + Santorini. The classic Cyclades pairing. Mykonos for the gay scene, Santorini for the volcanic sunsets and quieter romance. 30-minute ferry between them. 4 + 3 nights is the working structure.
- Mykonos + Naxos. Naxos is the under-rated calmer alternative — bigger island, fewer tourists, far cheaper, beautiful beaches. 4 + 3 nights.
- Mykonos + Paros. Paros and its smaller sister Antiparos are the boutique-traveler favorite. Smaller crowds than Mykonos, food scene growing. 4 + 3 nights.
- Athens + Mykonos. 2 nights in Athens (Acropolis, Gazi/Gazohori queer neighborhood, dinner at Aleria or Cookoovaya) then 4-5 nights on Mykonos. The historic-and-fun classic.
Frequently asked questions about gay Mykonos
Is Mykonos still the best gay island in Europe?
For gay men specifically, yes – Mykonos remains the highest-density LGBTQ+ summer destination in the Mediterranean and arguably the world. The beach club scene, the bars in Little Venice, the daytime circuit energy, and the gay-friendly hotel infrastructure are unmatched. Sitges (Spain) is the alternative for a calmer and cheaper week; Ibiza for a different kind of party energy.
When should I go to Mykonos in 2026?
The smart windows: mid-May to late June (shoulder), late July (lead-in to peak), and the first 10 days of September (post-XLSIOR cool-down). Avoid August 1-15 unless you specifically want the peak intensity. Hotel prices roughly triple between shoulder season and peak August.
What is XLSIOR Festival?
XLSIOR is Mykonos’s major gay circuit festival – 5-7 days of pool parties, beach club takeovers, and headline DJ sets, typically running in late August. It draws thousands of LGBTQ+ travelers from across Europe and the Americas. Check the official XLSIOR site for confirmed 2026 dates. Hotel inventory sells out 6-9 months in advance for XLSIOR week.
Where is the gay beach in Mykonos?
Super Paradise Beach – specifically the right (eastern) end anchored by JackieO Beach Club – is the established gay beach. Elia Beach (a short walk over the headland) is the calmer broadly gay-friendly alternative. Paradise Beach (different from Super Paradise) is the party-tourist beach, not the gay beach.
Where should I stay for nightlife?
Chora (Mykonos Town). Walking distance to Little Venice (sunset cocktails at Caprice, drinks at Babylon), Jackie O Town (the main gay dance bar), and Skandinavian Bar. Hotels: Belvedere, Boheme Mykonos, Andronikos.
Is Greece safe for gay travelers?
Yes. Greece legalized same-sex marriage in February 2024 – the first Orthodox-majority country to do so. Athens, Thessaloniki, and Mykonos are all openly welcoming. Smaller traditional villages may be more conservative but tourism-friendly throughout. The legal framework now matches that of Western Europe.
How many nights do I need in Mykonos?
4-5 nights is the sweet spot for a gay Mykonos trip. Less than 3 and you spend half the trip on travel logistics. More than 5 and most clients find themselves ready for a quieter island. Pair Mykonos with Santorini, Naxos, or Paros for a 7-10 night Cyclades trip.
How much does a gay Mykonos trip cost?
All-in for 5 nights, shoulder season, mid-range: $3,500-$5,500 per person, double occupancy, US to Athens to Mykonos. Peak August can double that. Hotels run $300-$600 shoulder season, $600-$1,500+ peak. Dinner $100-$200 per person mid-range, $200-$500+ top tables.
The bottom line on gay Mykonos in 2026
Mykonos in 2026 is still the LGBTQ+ summer capital of the Mediterranean — with marriage equality now legal nationwide in Greece since 2024, an unbroken gay tourism legacy back to the 1960s, and the strongest infrastructure for queer travelers on any island in Europe. The trick is when you go: pick shoulder season (May, June, September) for the best value, or commit to peak XLSIOR week if you want the maximum-intensity experience.
