Gay Cruises by Pride Travelers
Plan a Gay Cruise You'll Actually Love
A great gay cruise isn't just a cruise where LGBTQ+ travelers happen to be welcome. It's a sailing where you can sit at the bar without scanning the room, take your partner's hand on the pool deck without thinking twice, and meet other gay couples and solo travelers without trying. We've been booking gay cruises for nine years — for couples, for groups of friends, for first-time cruisers and seasoned travelers — and the right cruise for you depends entirely on the trip you're trying to take.
There are essentially three ways to do it well: a hosted Pride at Sea group cruise where we curate an LGBTQ+ community within a regular sailing, a gay river cruise through Europe's most welcoming cities, or a gay ocean cruise on a mainstream luxury line where you can disappear into the crowd or find your people on your own terms. We book all three. Tell us about you, and we'll match you to the right one.

Gay Cruises FAQ
Everything you'd want to ask before booking a gay cruise
Not seeing your question? Call Pride Travelers at (888) 865-4525.
Q1What is a gay cruise?
A gay cruise is any sailing planned and booked with LGBTQ+ travelers in mind. Three main flavors: full-ship gay charters like Atlantis or VACAYA where every cabin is LGBTQ+; hosted gay group cruises like Pride at Sea where we curate an LGBTQ+ community within a regular sailing; and mainstream cruises on gay-friendly lines (Celebrity, Virgin Voyages, Royal Caribbean) where you book on your own terms but the ship and itinerary are inclusive and welcoming.
Q2What's the difference between a gay charter and a hosted gay group cruise?
A full-ship charter books the entire ship for an LGBTQ+ audience — everyone on board is part of the same gay vacation. Higher price tag, very high energy, themed nights and big-name DJs. A hosted gay group cruise like Pride at Sea blocks a number of cabins on a regular sailing, then runs a parallel LGBTQ+ social calendar (welcome mixer, hosted dinners, group excursions) within the larger cruise. Lower price, more relaxed pace, easier for first-timers, but less of a full-on charter atmosphere.
Q3Are mainstream cruises like Celebrity, Virgin Voyages, and Royal Caribbean gay-friendly?
Yes — the major lines (Celebrity, Virgin Voyages, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Princess, Holland America) are all consistently gay-friendly. They host nightly LGBTQ+ "Friends of Dorothy" meetups, train staff for inclusive service, and welcome same-sex couples without raised eyebrows. Virgin Voyages is adults-only and the most explicitly LGBTQ+-forward of the bunch. Celebrity is a long-time community favorite. We can tell you which sailings tend to attract more LGBTQ+ travelers if you want a busier gay social scene.
Q4Do I need to be a couple to book a gay cruise?
Not at all. Solo gay travelers are a meaningful portion of every sailing we book. Hosted Pride at Sea cruises in particular are designed to make solo travel easy — the welcome mixer, hosted group dinners and shore excursions give you a built-in friend network on board. We also offer roommate matching for guests who want to split a cabin to save on the single supplement.
Q5How far in advance should I book a gay cruise?
For best cabin selection and pricing: 9–12 months ahead for ocean cruises, 12–18 months for river cruises and full-ship gay charters (which sell out fast). For a hosted Pride at Sea sailing, joining the early access waitlist 12+ months out gets you priority booking before the public.
Q6Are gay cruises adults-only?
Some are, some aren't. Virgin Voyages and Viking are 18+ across their entire fleet. Atlantis and VACAYA charters are 21+. Mainstream lines (Royal, Celebrity, Norwegian, Princess) allow children and families on most sailings; if you want a kid-free vibe, ask us about specific adults-focused itineraries or sailing dates.
Q7What's included with a gay cruise fare?
Varies by line. Mainstream lines typically include accommodations, main dining, daytime activities, kids' programs, and entertainment — but charge extra for drinks, Wi-Fi, specialty dining, and gratuities. Premium and luxury lines (Viking, Celebrity AquaClass, Virgin) bundle in drinks and Wi-Fi. Full-ship charters usually include all parties, daytime events and DJs, but airfare and pre-cruise hotels are separate. We'll lay out what's included before you book.
Q8Can solo gay travelers join? Are there roommate matches?
Yes to both. We host solo-traveler mixers on our hosted Pride at Sea sailings and can connect you with roommate matches before booking so you avoid the single supplement (which can run 25–100% extra on a solo cabin).
Q9Is it safe to be openly LGBTQ+ at every port?
Most popular cruise ports are gay-friendly — Caribbean (Aruba, Curaçao, Cozumel, Key West), European (Amsterdam, Vienna, Lisbon, Barcelona), and Alaskan ports are all welcoming. Some itineraries do visit countries with anti-LGBTQ+ laws (parts of the Middle East, certain Caribbean islands). When you book through us, we'll flag any port where same-sex displays of affection should be discreet, and we can help you choose itineraries that avoid those stops if it's a concern.
Q10How much does a gay cruise cost?
Mainstream ocean cruises: from ~\$800 per person for a 4–7 day Caribbean. River + small ship: from ~\$2,599 per person for an 8-day Viking Rhine or Danube. Full-ship gay charters (Atlantis, VACAYA): from ~\$3,500 per person and up. For deeper detail see our gay cruise cost guide.
Q11Do you book Atlantis Events and VACAYA cruises?
Yes — we book every major full-ship gay charter (Atlantis, VACAYA, BearCruise, Olivia, RSVP) plus all the major mainstream cruise lines. If you tell us the cruise you have in mind, we book it. If you're not sure which is right for you, we help you decide.
Q12What if I've never cruised before?
A lot of our LGBTQ+ clients are first-time cruisers. We walk you through everything — cabin selection, dining options, what to pack, what to expect on embarkation day. For first-timers we often recommend a hosted Pride at Sea group cruise (built-in social network so you're not on your own) or a river cruise (small ship, ~190 guests, very easy to navigate).
Q13Can you book pre-cruise hotels and flights?
Yes. Most LGBTQ+ travelers fly in 1–2 nights early to acclimate and explore the embarkation city — we book LGBTQ+-friendly hotels, airport transfers, pre-cruise dinners, and flights. One agent handles the whole trip.
Q14Do I get a better rate booking through Pride Travelers vs the cruise line direct?
The cruise fare is the same as booking direct. The benefit of booking through us: access to group rates, occasional onboard credit promotions, advocacy if anything goes wrong, and a single LGBTQ+ travel agent who handles every detail end-to-end. No extra cost — cruise lines pay our commission.
Q15What's the best time of year to take a gay cruise?
Depends on the destination. Caribbean: November–April is dry season, very popular with our clients. Mediterranean: May–June and September are sweet spots (warm but not packed). Alaska: late June through August. European rivers: May, June, September; December for Christmas Markets. Pride at Sea hosted sailings: dates set per sailing, see our Pride at Sea calendar.
